We continue to be inspired by the many MHL champions we've met through our work in schools and communities across the country. Sometimes, though, it's through the thoughtful insight of others that we are introduced to new champions. That’s exactly how we met Diya Mankotia. Thanks to the recommendation of a dedicated school counselor in Austin, Texas, who recognized the alignment between our mission and Diya’s passion, we are honored to spotlight Diya as our August MHL Champion. Diya has made a profound impact both locally and nationally as a passionate advocate for mental health and eating disorder awareness. She collaborated with the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) to lead a school-based research project assessing the impact of a student-led eating disorder awareness campaign. She delivered a presentation to over 150 students, distributed more than 250 mental health resource kits and activity booklets, and created a dedicated eating disorder resource page for her school’s official counseling website. In addition to founding her school’s first eating disorder awareness club, Diya expanded her mission on a national scale. Through her leadership with ANAD’s School Ambassador Program, she helped establish similar student-led chapters in 20 states (and counting!) Diya’s commitment to raising awareness, providing resources, and empowering peers exemplifies what it means to champion mental health literacy. We’re proud to recognize her incredible work and can’t wait to see what comes next. Congratulations, Diya! 🏆
