The Association for Advancing Quality in Education Preparation (AAQEP) is adding mental health education as a critical aspect of teacher preparation programs. Together, we are elevating the need for foundational mental health literacy (MHL) education among educators.

Our CLO, Dr. Donna Volpitta travels to Ireland for Global Wellbeing Education Collaborative

This month, our CLO, Donna Volpitta, Ed.D, traveled to Dublin, Ireland, where she was invited to join the Global Wellbeing Education Collaborative. As an educational movement, this group's shared vision is to be a collective of leaders, innovators, and changemakers united by one goal: to advocate for holistic wellbeing and connection, with a focus on preventive care to support healthier communities.

Recently, our CEO, Annie Slease, joined Marlon Morgan of Wellness Together for an episode of his podcast “This Helps.”

WHAT? The "C" in our name stands for Collaborative and that’s why this meeting is all about collaboration. Each year we look back on our progress, connect (in real life!) on existing and new initiatives, and we look toward the future of MHLC.

As Halloween approaches, it’s a great time for creativity, fun, and community, but let’s also be mindful.

Mental illness is not a costume or a punchline. Haunted asylums, “psycho” characters, and stigmatizing portrayals can perpetuate harmful myths and deepen the misunderstanding around mental health.

The more we improve mental health literacy, the better we understand how language, media, and cultural events impact those living with mental health conditions.

This season, let’s choose empathy over stereotypes. Halloween costumes can be scary, but stigma shouldn’t be part of the plan. Thanks for celebrating responsibility this season!
