Introducing M. Soña Alaniz Saiz, PhD, LCSW, our May MHL Champion!

Dr. Saiz is the Behavioral Health Manager of Safe and Healthy School Bureau at the New Mexico Public Education Department. Through her engagement with the MHLC Interstate Workgroup, Dr. Saiz has embraced MHL whole-heartedly. She recognizes the benefits of MHL for students and staff and has sought out creative ways to make it effective for those she serves.

Dr. Saiz has coordinated access to the MHL Aware training program for hundreds of New Mexico educators over the next two years. And, she has worked with her state partners and the MHLC team to offer a customized workshop for 60 NM school leaders, pairing the MHL framework with their state's initiative to provide supportive wellness spaces for elementary, middle, and high school students.

We are grateful for Dr. Saiz's enthusiasm for MHL and her creative approach to bringing MHL to the students and staff of New Mexico public schools.This month the MHLC recognizes Dr. Saiz as champion of MHL. Congratulations!

In this vital CoP session, "District Wide Common Language and Outcomes: Why the Implication of MHL is so vital in our school districts,” Sean will share his work from years in the field serving Tiers II and III students around the globe.

He will explore the benefits of using mental health literacy (MHL) programs as a part of school and community-based mental health services for youth and the need for MHL implementation at district levels.
