When the MHLC first formed in 2023, the primary goal was to ensure foundational understanding of mental health literacy in schools and communities. As global MHL leaders Wei and Kutcher have said, With good mental health literacy, we learn how to take better care of ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. We are empowered and provided with the skills that we need to help us build better lives, better systems of care, and a better society.
In Fall 2024, the MHL Aware asynchronous training was launched. Today, this training has reached nearly 2000 people from various walks of life, including university students, educators, and community leaders. Data shows the training is working and people like it! Participants’ confidence increases from 49% to 98% and the course rating average is 4.9/5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ While people love the original Aware training, some have asked for special versions designed for leaders, for trainers, and for special audiences. Here’s how the MHLC has responded to those requests: The Leadership Workshop was developed in late 2025 and has provided half-day customized MHL Aware trainings for a wide variety of audiences across the country. Plans are underway to deliver even more workshops in 2026! The Facilitator Guide version launched in early 2026. This version empowers trusted community voices to lead discussions around the MHL Aware content and connect it to local priorities without the typical delivery burden of a classic Train-the-Trainer model. By Spring 2026, the MHLC will have trained nearly 100 Discussion Facilitators to serve their local communities! This version will soon include specialized modules for Parents/Caregivers and for SUD Recovery.
