Angel Zhong, Young Adult Council Member & MHLC Advisor, Shares Her Experience with MHLC

Recently, we heard from Angel Zhong, MHLC Young Adult Advocacy Council Member and MHLC Advisor. Angel is a Post-baccalaureate Research Associate at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research. She shared her experience working with the MHLC on the Young Adult Advocacy Council Toolkit.

I cannot overstate the positive, transformative impact joining the MHLC community has had on my trajectory as an advocate and early career mental health researcher. Being on the MHLC Council introduced me to an upstream, public health approach to addressing youth mental health; before, I was solely oriented towards crisis response and reactive systems of care. I can say that the MHLC Young Adult Advocacy Council was an unparalleled positive professional development and service opportunity.

We are so grateful for Angel and her contributions to advancing MHL in schools and communities. And we celebrate all the Young Adult Council members’ achievements in this work.

Call for Chapter Proposals: Fostering Mental Health LIteracy through Adolescent Literature 2nd Edition

Are you an ELA Educator or a Mental Health Professional focused on enriching youth's social and emotional needs and dismantling stigma through adolescent literature?

MHLC Advisors Dr. Brooke Eisenbach and Dr. Jason Frydman are seeking chapter proposals for their second edition of Fostering Mental Health Literacy Through Adolescent Literature, which focuses on advancing the integration of MHL into ELA instruction through novel study.
